I am staring at the tell-tales on the Jibe to
make sure they are trimmed properly as I sail up the front channel of
Monroe Harbor.
Huh ?!?!?
Ok, here's the
translation; I am staring at tell-tales (strings) that are on the Jib
(front sail) that indicate whether or not the sail is trimmed properly
. Trimming the sails is the adjusting of the amount of sail (ease
or tighten) necessary for the sail to be catching as much wind or
power as possible at the current moment. This is to make sure they are
full of wind and we don't lose power (stop moving by force of wind). If
the boat were to lose power then we would just be floating and based on
the position of the boat this would be bad. Why you ask, because the
boat is in the harbor channel which has that breaker wall behind me on
one side and other boats on the other. If the boat were to just
float, it would run the boat up against the breaker wall based on the
direction of the water current or chop within the harbor.
